December 21, 2014
I personally wanted to thank everyone who decided to undertake this adventure with us.
At the beginning of 2014, we formally launched Finney Law Firm. I was joined instantly by three talented and loyal staffers, Isaac T. Heintz, a trusted and talented associate in transactional law, dozens of clients, some of whom we have had for decades, and our team of talented vendors. Notwithstanding our 18 years together, we weren’t sure what to expect. In addition, bankruptcy/criminal attorney, and general commercial litigator, Justin Walker, folded his practice in to ours, and new attorney Brian Shrive agreed to launch his legal career with us. Brilliant appellate attorney Curt Hartman joined us “of counsel.”
We are now concluding a year of unprecedented success, financially as a firm, professionally in terms of accomplishments, and as advocates for our clients in achieving outstanding outcomes.
On January 10, we had a case accepted for review by the United States Supreme Court, one of only 69 of 10,000 applications they received last year. In June we had a second case accepted by them. We won both by 9-0 decisions, the first one authored by Justice Clarence Thomas. Read more about those wins here.
At the end of January, we had a major trial in Warren County that resulted in a victory. In April, we appeared before the Supreme Court. Throughout the summer, we traveled the State of Ohio to prosecute a record number of property tax valuation reduction cases that clients had entrusted to us.
That same month, talented attorney Bradley M. Gibson committed to our firm and its clients, a great advance for our commercial litigation practice.
In August, experienced and respected attorney Kevin Hopper and this talented paralegal, Tammy Wilson, joined us, significantly expanding our estate planning and probate administration presence, and in September paralegal Christina Cowan joined the firm.
In October, we launched Ivy Pointe Title, led by experienced real estate attorney Richard P. Turner. He brought over his entire sophisticated closing team, delivering every day on our promise of “accurate and on time, every time” in real estate transactions. Investors, Realtors and residential and commercial lenders have responded enthusiastically to this development. It already is a success.
In our first year, we have been entrusted with challenging and significant transactional work by our clients — real estate, corporate, and estate planning, major litigation projects, and significant public interest litigation.
I write to express, sincerely, a big “thank you” to each and every person who took this path together with us – our service delivery team and our clients. We hope to deliver great things for our clients – to “make a difference” – for years to come!
— Christopher P. Finney, President
