Biography

Bruce serves as Of Counsel to Finney Law Firm in its Real Estate practice group.  He has worked on investment-grade retail (and retail/mixed-use) properties in locations across the United States, for the past thirty years.  His experience includes leasing; management and operations matters; resolution and assistance with litigation of disputes with tenants; reciprocal easements and use restriction agreements; development; purchases and sales; and due diligence.  He has extensive experience representing national-level landlords with many prominent retail tenants, along with representing a grocery chain in regional leasing of store locations.  He also has significant experience with office-type property leasing, management and development.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Bruce worked for almost a decade in the real estate industry in business roles, including commercial real estate appraisal; commercial real estate lending and development (at a major life insurance company), and commercial real estate development and management (for a major downtown private investor).

Bruce has handled virtually every aspect of shopping center and mixed-use transactions on a variety of matters including:

  • Anchor and inline leases for occupants of retail and mixed-use properties
  • Letter of intent negotiation, purchase and sale contract negotiation, due diligence and purchase and sale transaction closings for commercial properties
  • REA and use / site plan documentation
  • Renovations and expansions of existing commercial properties
  • Dispute management and litigation oversight in retail centers, including lease-related disputes and management-related and operations-related difficulties and issues
  • Property management and leasing agreements for commercial properties
  • Pad sales and leases to anchors and outparcel users
  • Co-counsel to landlords with respect to transactional aspects of commercial tenant bankruptcies, including negotiation of agreed stipulations and associated amendments
  • Implementation of owner / investor policies in commercial management agreements and leases
  • Governmental development agreements for commercial properties
